London, US and the news about a book on Michael Jackson

Aphrodite Jones is a writer and Thomas A. Mesereau Jr. has written the foreword to a book about “Michael Jackson Conspiracy”. Is everything true in this book?

27.02.10 – Vampire Weekend. How the Vampire Weekend wrote White Sky. Well, it is not MTV Unplugged, but a live session and an acoustic version for the Observer New Review. And in this Sunday’s Observer (a video)…

Wynton Marsalis – 14.09.09 Wynton Marsalis will play on Friday, September 25, at Davis, in California, at the Jackson Hall at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30pm. And a day later… Please refer to this text only on that afternoon and it could be different…

Oregon. Wynton Marsalis will be on Thursday, September 17, in Eugene, Oregon, at the Silva Concert Hall. At 7:30pm…

Toronto. Gene Ween will be on Friday August 14 at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto… At 9 pm for 25 dollars…

Hiromi in London. Hiromi, the Yaron Herman Trio and the Tineke Postma Quartet will be at the Barbican Hall, in London, on 10 July at 7.30 pm. Tickets will cost 10 or 15 pounds.

A photo of Tineke Postma in a text I wrote in Italian.

The Toronto Jazz Festival – 23.06.09 Toronto Jazz Festival from Friday June 26 to Sunday July 5 and only the last days for this edition. The saxophonist Kenny Garrett, Alain Caron Band and Sadao Watanabe will play on Sunday, July 5, at Nathan Phillips Square, while the pianist and composer Kenny Werner will be the host on July 4 at the Enwave Theatre, Harbourfront Centre, with trumpeter Randy Brecker, saxophonist David Sanchez, Scott Coley and Antonio Sanchez. And…

July 3 and 4. Branford Marsalis. What a nice presence for the Toronto Jazz Festival. He will play with the Dave Holland Quintet at 8 pm of Friday July 3 and you can hear their music  at the Nathan Phillips Square. Tickets will cost 40 dollars and in the same day Susan Tedeschi will be at the Opera House with Alex Pangman and the Lickin’ Good Fried. The concert will take place at 9 pm at 735 Queen Street East. Tickets will cost in this case 30 or 35 dollars.

On July 4 Eliane Elias and Curtis Stigers will be the main protagonists at 8 pm at the Nathan Phillips Square for 35 dollars for every ticket. Have a nice time.

From June 30 to July 2 – Al Di Meola. The most important concert in these days is, in my opinion, the one of Al di Meola, but let’s see a “simplified” schedule of these days of festival.

Jamie Cullum will be the host of Tuesday June 30, with Dominick Farinacci. He will be at the Nathan Phillips Square at 8 pm for 55 dollars. Melody Gardot will play at the Harbourfront Centre on June 29 and a day later – Wednesday July 1 – the Dave Brubeck Quartet and the Brandi Disterheft Sextet will play at the same place and at the same time for the same price as Jamie Cullum… Last, but not least, the “Al Di Meola World Sinfonia ’09” and Amanda Martinez will entertain their audience at the same time and place, but on Thursday July 2, for 40 dollars.

Pat Metheny. Sunday is Sunday… This Sunday June 28 offers Buckwheat Zydeco and BeauSoleil at 8 pm in the Nathan Phillips Square for 30 dollars… Toronto’s gospel, blues and jazz singer Jackie Richardson will be, instead, at the Enwave Theatre, Harbourfront Centre. But I think Monday June 29 will offer even “better” concerts with Pat Metheny at 8 pm with the Gary Burton Quartet Revisited (Steve Swallow and Antonio Sanchez with him) and Robi Botos and the Botos Brothers. Tickets will cost from 45 dollars to 85 dollars for the show at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts and the place will be in Queen Street West.

Hiromi, Kool & The Gang and more. Kool & The Gang, instead, will play with Harrison Kennedy at 8 pm in the Nathan Phillips Square. Their concert will cost 55 dollars and there is also Hiromi at 7 pm in the  Fleck Dance Theatre (Harbourfront Centre, 207 Queen’s Quay West, 3rd Floor).

Saturday... This Saturday June 27 Medeski Martin & Wood will play at Nathan Phillips Square at 8 pm. Tickets will cost 30 dollars. Free admission, instead, for the concert of the John Stetch Trio in the same place at midday.

At the same time, but at the Tan Cafe in Queen Street West, the Thugs at Bay will offer their music. Other concerts will be played by the Toronto Jazz Orchestra and Ariana Nasr (both at 1pm, the first at The Rex Jazz and Blues Bar in Queen Street West and the second at the Tan Cafe in the same street).

Sonny Rollins – Friday June 26. The most important concert on this Friday will be the one of Sonny Rollins at 8pm at the Four Seasons Centre, but the first show of the evening will take place at 5pm with Soul Stew at the Nathan Phillips Square.

Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings will play at 8pm in the same place; the Freddy Cole Quartet at 7pm at the Fleck Dance Theatre, Harbourfront Centre; Adi Braun & Andree Bernard at 8pm at the Old Mill Inn; Monk’s Casino at 7pm at the Church of the Redeemer; The Heavy at 10pm at the so-called Supermarket and the Russ Little Quintet at 9pm at the so-called The Pilot.

Jane Bunnett. The Toronto soprano saxophonist and flutist Jane Bunnett will not sing her latest release, Embracing Voices, today – November 21, 2008 – at the Toronto Jazz Festival in Canada. According to a newsletter, the album would have been recorded in English, Creole and Spanish and would be far from her mix of Cuban music and jazz. Moreover the vocalists Molly Johnson and Kellylee Evans would have been guests on her album.
