Simply Red will be on tour in the UK in Scotland, Wales and Britain. In Scotland they will be in Glasgow (Braehead Arena, 24 March, and the Clyde Auditorium, 6 April). In Wales the only city will be Cardiff (Cardiff International Arena, 26 March).
In Britain they will also be in Sheffield (Sheffield Arena, 27 March), Birmingham (LG Arena, 28 March), and along the south coast in Bournemouth (Bournemouth International Centre, 30 March) and Brighton (Brighton Centre, 31 March), but also in the capital, London (the O2 Arena on April, 2 and 3), and in Manchester (M.E.N. Arena, 5 April). Other concerts will be held in Newcastle (Metro Radio Arena, 7 April), and Nottingham (Trent FM Arena, 9 April).
Another “group” of concerts will start on July 22 at the Sandown Park in Esher, UK. Liverpool will be covered three days later at the Liverpool Echo Arena for “Summer Pops”. 01.12.2008- There was a lot of water in Venice. Here’s the “Historic Center of Venice Flooded” as an American newspaper – the New York Times – refers. More or less the same text in the British Guardian and another English newspaper, The Telegraph, gives some advice for travellers. Bbc News uses some photos or titles “Venice is hit by serious flooding” and Cnn “Parts of Venice neck deep in flood water” or AlJazeera “Venice hit by severe flooding”. Instead, the Huffington Post chooses “Venice Hit By Worst Flooding In More Than 20 Years” and Euronews “Flooding alert in Venice”.
Madoff. The Wall Street financier Bernard “Bernie” Madoff pleaded guilty last March “in front of a New York courtroom”. I am referring to an article by the British newspaper “The Guardian” according to which Mr. Madoff confessed to 11 criminal charges of fraud, money-laundering, false statements and perjury and of “operating a corrupt business empire dating back to the early 1990s”.
The “once-respected Wall Street fixture”, who might be condemned next June to a punishment of “150-year jail term”, “has been the subject of death threats”, according to the newspaper, and “was surrounded by a tight security detail”. I think this aspect may be important to demonstrate how the economic turmoil has affected the everyday life of most Americans. If someone receives a death threat, something very important should be happened, shouldn’t it? Unless the USA are a country where very mad people live…
Madoff – the journalist Andrew Clark writes – described in the courtroom “how his scheme originated in the early 1990s when a recession made it difficult to produce healthy returns. Instead of investing in stocks and shares, he began using new deposits to pay out fake profits to existing clients”. What follow next in the Guardian’s article by Andrew Clark is: “The financier said that at the outset, he had been falsifying records on a temporary basis”. Moreover, Madoff “described laundering money through a Londonbranch of his company to create a false paper trail”. The newspaper, like many media in that days, used the expressions “Ponzi scheme” and “pyramid selling in the US” (cash from new customers or investors – Phillip Inman explains in the Guardian – is given to existing investors). And this situation should have affected areas like Florida, Switzerland, the UK,

Your opinion about the fact that Rudy Guede has been sentenced to 16 years in prison on appeal? And the fact that the Court cut his sentence from 30 to 16 years? His conviction was upheld, I read in the Guardian’s website.
The British newspaper refers to the fast-track trial and I have learnt from it words like stabbing, lack of criminal record, appeal court and appeal hearing, defendants, burglary and blaming. Or some others like tracking somebody to somewhere, handprint, full acquittal, mounting a second appeal and under Italian law. You may also read there the words of two lawyers, Walter Biscotti and Francesco Maresca.
04.12.09 What do you think of the fact that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito have been found guilty of murdering Meredith Kercher? She was sentenced to 26 years in prison and Sollecito 25.
27.06.09 The Knox trial goes on and a school owner has testified, as Abc News reports. The British student Meredith Kercher was found dead in Perugia with her throat slashed. The headmaster of a Milan nursery school, Maria Antonietta Salvadori Del Prato, took the stand, as it is told in the USA and in Australia. Rudy Guede – she told the court – would have broken into her school and stolen a knife. Amanda Knox’s defence lawyer say that Rudy Guede alone would have murdered Meredith Kercher – as Nick Squires reports for the British newspaper The Telegraph.

Other job offers in Europe for you. The EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) calls for applications for the recruitment of a Project Officer for Vessel Traffic Monitoring who will work in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. He or she will have a four-year-course university degree (or a three-year-course university degree with at least three years of appropriate professional experience), knowledge of English, another language of the EU and of the maritime traffic monitoring sector as well as of the EU institutions. A relevant experience of at least three years is also required and here there is the call for applications. Moreover, it is also important that the application form should be sent by registered mail by Friday, May 15.
If your experience concerns economics, mathematics or statistics, then fifteen administrator posts within Eurostat could be an occasion for you to apply. The place of work will be Luxembourg and candidates have to have obtained a four-year course university diploma in the fields above (or a three-year-course university degree with at least one year of appropriate professional experience), good knowledge of English and French and at least nine years’ of work after the award of the university degree and five years of them in the sector or in other fields (national accounts/main aggregates, national accounts methodology, institutional sectors’ accounts or supply, use and input/output tables as well as balance payments, financial accounts and balance sheets).

This EU institution needs a Budget Liaison Officer for its unique office in Cologne (Germany). The candidate should have obtained a three-year university degree in public/general/business administration with a focus on finance and/or accounting or even professional training – with work experience -with a focus on the same sectors. Knowledge of English and of another language, ability to analyse budgetary and/or financial information and familiarity with EU administrative procedures and terminology are also required. Application forms could be sent by registered mail and here there is the vacancy notice for the offer about a temporary agent and other previous invitations.
Interested to work in the railway field? The ERA (European Railway Agency) invites to apply for a post of Quality Officer in Valenciennes in France. You have to apply until tomorrow May 14 only by sending your application form to this mailbox. Here there is the vacancy notice and some of the elegibility criteria are a university diploma for a three-year course, knowledge of English and another European language and at least six years of professional experience after having obtained the university degree.
As for work criteria these ones are an experience in the field, risk management key principles and tools and in the implementation of quality management systems such as ISO 9001:2000, TQM and EFQM. Other essential selection criteria are a good knowledge of business planning and reporting principles and tools, computer literacy and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet, etcetera.
If you have much more work experience, then another invitation by the ERA could be addressed to you for a post of Head of Sector in the Safety Unit. You have to have at least twelve years of professional experience after the award of a university degree in engineering, science, law or similar, and five of them in positions relevant for the post. You have to have managed teams or projects, have experience in implementation and/or auditing of management systems and in international working groups or projects. A very good knowledge of English, computer literacy and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet are required and the conditions to apply are the same as the previous posts I referred to. 01.12.2008 I would like to remember here in this blog the soul singerJames Brown who died on Christmas Day on 2006. The “Godfather of Soul” was 73 and made his debut at a venue. Moreover, the director Spike Lee would have thought of making a film about him and Brown would have approved the use of his own music on the soundtrack. The film should be directed in this year and the project should be overseen by the Oscar-winning producer of A beautiful Mind Brian Grazer.
