Well, I do not have some of the essential selection criteria like a university degree in Law or Political Sciences. What I am referring to? To a post of Assistant to the Data Protection Officer at the Eurojust in The Hague, the Netherlands, with deadline fixed for tomorrow, December 31. But, if your field of competence is different, there is also an offer for a Secretary to Eurojust (Irish Desk).      

The same deadline, but I do not have seven years of professional experience, for a post of Human Resources Officer. The place of employment shall be Vilnius, in Lithuania, at the EIGE, the European Institute for Gender Equality. But maybe you do have the required professional experience and will apply.

Even more experience – nine years required – to become a Senior Researcher and Analyst or Financial and Procurement Officer and a Senior Gender Mainstreaming Expert. Definetely and undoubtedly not for me…

But – last, but not least – it seems to be easier to apply for the posts of Operations Assistant, Resources Centre and Library Assistant and Stakeholders’ Coordinator. Courage and Happy New year for all of you…

30.09.09 Il ricordo di Calogero La Mantia, figlio del titolare di una radio agrigentina e deceduto un po’ di tempo fa. Ci saranno sabato tre ottobre alle Stoai di Agrigento una mia parente, la poetessa Giuseppina Mira, il bravissimo attore raffadalese Mimmo Galletto, l’altrettanto bravo cantante realmontese Nenè Sciortino ed il direttore artistico Mario Gaziano dalle sei del pomeriggio.

Montagna Longa. L’Archivio storico comunale e la polizia municipale

Se, magari, siete più grandicelli, vi ricorderete probabilmente della disastro aereo del Dc8 a Montagna Longa, vicino a Palermo, di cui si potrebbe occupare Chi l’ha visto di Raitre stasera, lunedì sette dicembre, dopo le nove e dieci. Ben trentasette anni fa, a quanto pare, e tutto ciò è ottimo per la memoria. Sarebbe stato un volo Roma – Palermo e chissà se se ne parlerà stasera.

09.11.08 Ultimo giorno oggi fino alle 18.30 per visitare all’Archivio storico comunale di Palermo (via Maqueda 157) la mostra storica Per la sicurezza della città dedicata ai cento anni della polizia municipale cittadina. L’ingresso è libero.

Attenzione sulle strade

Attenzione sulle strade, molta attenzione. Ciò valga soprattutto per me e per voi tutti. In una giornata io o persone che conosco abbiamo visto due incidenti oppure i loro risultati. Uno fra Realmonte e contrada Durrueli o il villaggio Bellavista di Porto Empedocle (più vicino a Realmonte); nell’altro, purtroppo, in quello del viadotto Morandi, c’è stata una vittima, come abbiamo saputo, dai mezzi, Alessandro Bonamico di Porto Empedocle.

Sincere condoglianze alla famiglia ed un invito a cercare di stare più tranquilli che sia possibile con il sostegno degli amici e di tutti i conoscenti. Sono situazioni difficili e forse non le si riuscirà a superare. Accettarle, magari, nel tempo, sì, e non nell’immediato.

Chemicals, REACH and everybody of us

Just an “hint” to the REACH guidance. What is REACH, most of you would probably ask? It stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals. There is a consultation procedure by the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency). If the agency is convinced that this guidance should be updated or a new guidance should be developed, it will draft a text, maybe with the help of experts who are external to the institution.

Then three steps follow: the so-called consultation of a PEG (Partner Expert Group); consultation of ECHA’s committees and/or forum and, last but not least, final consultation of the European Commission and the specialized Authorities of the 27 Member States of the EU. This happens via the meeting of the authorities for REACH and the CLP Regulations (Caracal).

For most of us who do not know this specialized language, a “translation” of CLP regulations to general English would be a releaf. It is not very difficult as CLP stands for Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures. It should have been “considered in detail during negotiations between Member States, the Council and the European Parliament, between July 2007 and June 2008. The UK was represented by the HSE” – Health and Safety Executive, an institution – “throughout the negotiations”.

Well, just another word… Caracal is the expert group of the competent authorities for the REACH and CLP Regulations. But now just a pause and be patient till the next update…

Safety. Just a brief referring to safety and to another European institution, the OSHA (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work). It published a volume whose title is “Workplace exposure to nanoparticles“.

When will the next Womad concerts take place at Charlton Park in Malmesbury, Wiltshire? From 24th to 26th July.  For our non-British readers I must add that Charlton Park and Wiltshire are places west from London and not very far from Wales, Coventry, Bath, Bristol and Swindon. The next train stations to Malmesbury are Chippenham, Kemble and First Great Western with Chippenham about one hour far from London Paddington, a little more for Kemble and about two hours for First Great Western from London Euston.
First of all I would like to reach for a dictionary for you after I read the word “quintessential” defining this festival in its newsletter. I wondered what this word means, looked up the word “quintessence” and found the meanings “the essential part of a theory, speech, condition, etc.” and “the perfect example of a quality”.
Secondly, I already knew of Bbc’s presence at Womad and learnt of Radio Womad and these are Bbc’s programmes about the 2006, 2007 and 2008 editions…
