Buzek new president of the European Parliament. MEPs in the UK, Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands

The Polish Jerzy Buzek is the new president of the European Parliament with 555 votes out of 644. The other candidate, Eva-Britt Svensson, reached only 89 votes. The 14 vicepresidents are Diana Wallis, Edward McMillan Scott, Gianni Pittella, Roberta Angelilli, Miguel Angel Martinez, Alejo Vidral-Quadras Roca, Dagmar Roth-Behrendt, Libor Rouċek, Isabelle Durant, Pál Schmitt, Rainer Wieland, Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou and Stavros Lambrinidis.

The newly-elected European Parliament reconvenes in Strasbourg from Tuesday July 14 to Thursday July 16 about the election of new European Parliament president on Tuesday and the election of new committee chairs and vice-chairs on Thursday. On Wednesday the discussion will concern the Czech and Swedish EU presidencies.

Sajjad Karim, already an Alde MEP (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe), will keep on being a MEP for the Conservative (UK) and the EPP group (European People’s Party – Europe) . He was elected in the North West region (Greater Manchester, but also Cumbria, Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside)
