The Polish Jerzy Buzek is the new president of the European Parliament with 555 votes out of 644. The other candidate, Eva-Britt Svensson, reached only 89 votes. The 14 vicepresidents are Diana Wallis, Edward McMillan Scott, Gianni Pittella, Roberta Angelilli, Miguel Angel Martinez, Alejo Vidral-Quadras Roca, Dagmar Roth-Behrendt, Libor Rouċek, Isabelle Durant, Pál Schmitt, Rainer Wieland, Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou and Stavros Lambrinidis.

The newly-elected European Parliament reconvenes in Strasbourg from Tuesday July 14 to Thursday July 16 about the election of new European Parliament president on Tuesday and the election of new committee chairs and vice-chairs on Thursday.
